Show BUTTE, MONT. A thousand people gathered at the Holland pavilion Tuesday to bid farewell fare-well to Father A. D. Leitham, pastor of St. Joseph's church, who will leave soon for his old home in Pennsylvania for a visit. Not only were the members mem-bers of St. Joseph's partah there In large numbers, but hundreds of people from every section of the city attended attend-ed the reception and ball. During one of the intermissions between be-tween the dances P. J. Gllllgan presented pre-sented an elegant Stanhope carriage with a single harness to the reverend father in behalf of the men who are members of St. Joseph's Literary society. soci-ety. Father Leitham replied feelingly and thanked his parishioners for their thoughtfulness. During the evening a supper was served by the ladles of the Married Women's society of the church. The dancing continued until a late hour. The closing exercises of St. Joseph's parochial school were given Monday afternoon at the Broadway theatre. The program consisted of songs, dances, drills and recitations. All the partici pants did well and the entertainment was .very enjoyable. Those who received diplomas , from the eighth grade were: Homer. Kelly, Edwin Leyden, Helen Reichie, Paul Reichle, Paul Lenz. Frank Lenz, Marie Kern. Anna Laird. William Burke, Chester Kennedy, Gertrude Tobln, Agnes Ag-nes Eurchik and Agnes Toner. The high school graduation of St. Patrick's parochial school took place Tuesday evening at the Broadway theatre the-atre before a crowd that filled every seat In the building. The students of the school other than graduates presented pre-sented a play called "The Witch of Bramble Hollow;." The short play was well given and the boys and girls received re-ceived much applause. Between the acts the orchestra played selections, and numerous drills and dances were included in the program. After the entertainment-the diplomas were presented by Rev. Father T. W. Drumm, who also delivered the closing address. Father Drumm is well known as an orator in Butte, and he delivered deliv-ered a splendid talk last evening. The diplomas were then given to John Andrew, An-drew, Robert Peoples. Agatha Kelly, Pearl Early, Mary Fleming, Theresa Leonard and Theresa Reichle. The scholastic year is finished at St. Patrick's and the school Is now closed for the vacation. The closing exercises of St. Mary's school were held Wednesday in the assembly as-sembly hall of the academy. A number num-ber of the members of the parish were present to hear the excellent program which was given. Before the address to the students by Rev. Father Dougherty Dough-erty and the presentation of diplomas by Rev. Father English the following Opening chorus, "Hymn to the Sacred Heart," class; "Trading the Dollies," ten little girls; chorus, "See Saw" twelve boys; dialogue, "Scene at a Ticket Office"; Of-fice"; chorus song, "I'll Throw a Kisa to Papa," twelve girls: pantomime, "The Eagle Song"; recitation, "When Mamma Was a Little Girl," Margaret O. Flynn; chorus. "My Wild Irish Rose," twelve girls; recitation, "A Doll's Best Friend," Catherine Dolan; dialogue, "Minnie's Presence," three girls: recitation, "The Graduates." Master Mas-ter Ivester Sullivan; chorus, "Farewell to St. Mary's," graduates. The following prizes were given: For deportment, M. Lenlhan; for attendance, attend-ance, Joseph Dolan; for Christian doctrine, doc-trine, James Brett. |
