The train was two hours late and this delay interfered with provision made for attendance at the early masses in the two Catholic churches. Most of the party were escorted from the depot to St. Mary's academy, where mass was recited by Rev. Edmund A. Casey of St. Louis, a clerical .member of the order. "By direction of Bishop Laurence Scanlan masses were celebrated at St. Mary's at 7, 7:30. S. 9. 9:30. 10 and 11 o'clock, and at St. Patrick's at 8 and 10 o'clock, so that all of the visiting knights had an opportunity to attend. About 11 o'clock a committee of local knights seated their euests on "Seeing Salt Lake" cars. A bunch of the tardy Missourians were overtaken by Joseph Dederichs with his surrey, and driven about the city. In the afternoon the majority went to the lake, others strolled up Rrigham street and a few attended the afternoon service at the ! tabernacle. All left at 8 o'clock on the homeward journey, delighted with all they saw in the City of the Saints. Mrs. P. J. McKenna. Mrs. Joseph Dederichs and Mrs. James O'Connor assisted the local knights in entertaining entertain-ing the guests. |
