Show KEEP THE CANDLES BURNING. (Written for The Intermountain Catholic.) See, the gleaming candle lights! Flickering from the altar's throne Alike glittering visions of starry nights Yet ye worship not alone, For hearts are glowing and it seems Gather courage from thy gleams. See the myriad lights ablaze! Watch the curling smoky fumes ! Afore the altar's starry haze Lo, an ideal sacrifice consumes The lighted beams of many a hopeful prayer That mid darkness might despair. Keep the candles burning bright! Like some note of music they ilay open the heart to God and right As never sermon led the way. Lo, the gentle rays so bright Let them cheer the festal night. Keep the candles ever burning; Before yond image of His sacred heart, So our hearts be. always yearning For His deep-felt joys apart So the just be found returning And the altar's flame kept burning.
