Show ( EUREKA, UTAH. (Special Correspondence.) j Last week the energetic Knights of j J Columbus in this prosperous mining ;camp got a very pleasant surprise. As jthey were assembled at their usual i meeting, judge of their astonishment when they beheld their premises invaded in-vaded by the very last thing in the world they expected to see, some thirty to forty suffragettes. And suffragettes they really wer?. but there was a vast difference between them and the suffragettes suffra-gettes that terrorize merry England. The suffragettes of Eureka's, or let us give them their real name. "Children of Mary." their mission is spiritual, not worldly, they came to bring peace and happiness to that fine body of-men who work so hard for God and religion, and to show those same men that the Cath-' olic women of Eureka appreciate, and appreciate to the full the knights' work, j Each of those women carried a basket, j and SIllltxKr V I rid on !n thnt Kor.1-., ....,..! all kinds of goodies, meat, pies, and every species of comestible calculated to make a man happy with himself and the world in general. The Children of Mary were heartily welcomed. The tables were spread, the good things were eaten and humor and happiness hap-piness shone on every face. After the banquet there was an enoyable social concert, all the more enjoyable since it was impromptu. The ladies were thanked for the thoughtfulness and kindness in very suitable language by Grand Knight Hanley, and backed up by such capable and earnest speakers as J. D. Stack and John Sullivan, there was nothing lacking in this respect. Long may the knights and the Children of Mary continue to do the good work in their respective spheres. They have at all events by such a meeting shown how blessed a thing it is for brothers and sisters to dwell in unity, working shoulder to shoulder for the good of the old religion of which they are members and the advancement of which is their earnest desire. Rev. Father O'Donohue, who has been quite ill for the past few weeks, has gone to Park City. He will remain with relatives in that city until he recovers re-covers from his illness and is again able to look after the Catholic church In this city. Miss Julia Hannifin has been in Salt Lake upon a visit during the past week or ten days. J. E. Driscoll made a business trip to Salt Lake last week. v j |
