Show WOMEN IN STREET CARS. An order was recently issued in New York to have cars set aside in the subways for the exclusive nse of the gentler sex. but "a few days after it was issued, a story was sent out that the women refused re-fused to ride in those cars; that they preferred to take chances in the cars for men and women rather than to be herded together in apartments for their exclusive use. We have not been informeel as to the cause for the order setting aside certain cars for the exclusive use of women, hut it was no doubt the results of many "kicks" to the management by members of the fair sex that they had to hang on straps with rude men occupying the seats in the cars. Civilization in New York has developed to so high a degree that men and women are persons of espial .importance or unimportance. Xo doubt there are a few who have not yet reached that supreme su-preme perfection indicated, and these uncivilized '"barbarians" are the objectors who caused the order or-der to go forth. for cars for the exclusive use of women. Out west, or at least in Salt Lake, the women have no need for special cars. There are only a few men here who have lived in New York long enough to have acquired her civilized ways, but we arc mostly "barbarians'' who are pleased to give up our scats and receive the gracious thanks of the fair women. A great many men go to Xew York for short stays, but the uncivilizing process works its way with them on their return, and it is only a few days until they are just like the rest of the natives in their attitude toward women. Here, in spite of the fact that women have been given the privilege of expressing their sentiments at the polls, the men still cling to the edd-fashioned notions no-tions that women are women, and as such arc entitled en-titled to the consideration which their mothers and grandmothers received. g |
