The annual business meeting to arrange ar-range for the banquet of the Alumni Association of the Immaculate Concep tion school was held in the school parlors par-lors last Friday evening, and arrangement!" arrange-ment!" begun looking toward the holding hold-ing of the banquet which usually follows fol-lows the graduating exercises. The announcements an-nouncements reached the out of town members of the association too late for them to make the trip to Denver in time and so the meeting was attended by but a few. It was decided to see very member of the organization personally per-sonally in the near future in order .o all a special busines? meeting for the election of officers. A quorum is necessary neces-sary to such an election, and there was not a sufficient number present. Toasts were practically decided upon and will be Announced later. Mrs. Martin K. F. Callanan for Manitou and ihe place will remain vacant. The banquet will be the most elegantly arranged ar-ranged yet given. About twenty-five covers" w ill be laid. A Pretty June Wedding. One of the most talked of weddings to takt- place early in June is that of Miss Katherine Frances Smith and Dr. Louis Hough, which is set for Wednes-iay Wednes-iay evening, June S. Miss Smith is the daughter of Mr. and Mm O. L. Smith and belongs to the Cathedral parish. She is an exceptionally charming young woman, and in the few years that have inicrvened since her return, from school she has endeared herself to a host of friends. 'With her mother she is iden tified with several charitable organizations organiza-tions and takes an active interest in church work. She is still decidedly you rig. having been out of school but two years. She graduated from the Convent of the Assumption near Paris at that time and previous to that had spent many years abroad. The wedding wed-ding will be a very exclusive affair and niy a very few inlimate friiends will i attend. Hew Thomas H. Malone, an !d friend of the bride's family, will journey from New York City to perform per-form the ceremony. The bride will have but one attendant, i Dr. Hough if a well known physician of Tampie.j. Mexico, and there the young coupb- will make their home. Miss Smith will be greatly missed by the legjo,, of friends she has won for herself in Denver. Picnic For the House of the Good Shepherd. There is scarcely a charity in the whole city that appeals so to the masses, whether philanthropically inclined in-clined or otherwise, as does the House of the Good Shepherd. As the name implies, it is i refuge for wayward girls in need of a guiding hand and an en. ouraging voice, hut it also shelters L''0 motherless children ho have no home and comprise ihe reservation "iear after year the public seems to , awaken to a fuller realization of the work being accomplished by the Sisters Sis-ters of the Good Shepherd and is more willing to lend a helping hand. The recently organized Good Shepherd Aid m ciety has done much tow ard bringing about this result and has extensively advertised the need for material assistance assist-ance in carrying on the work. The society already has a larger membership member-ship than other similar organization in Denver, and is steadily growing. Several weeks; ago a plan was set on foot to hold a monster benefit to raise funds for the institution, which is es-i es-i s.ntially self-supporting. Some pro- poped holding a fair, but the sum usually realized from such an enter- ii tamment hardly justifies the amount of work attendant upon it. ccordingly it was decided to hold a picnic instead mi by extensive advertising to bring ii to the attention of the public. The date of the picnic is June IS, Saturday, nd judging from the sale of tickets ihus far,, it will, be largely attended. All or the privileges of Heikeley lake, including the lake itself, have been secured-for the occasion, and they will net a neat sum in addition to gate admission. ad-mission. Tickets have been w idely distributed dis-tributed in all parishes. Mrs. Y. T. Green has charge of the distribution' in the cathedra! parish and has met with phenomenal success in disposing of ihem. She is confident of an unprecedented unprece-dented success. Berkeley lake is a favorite fa-vorite place for picnics, and this will be th first church picnic of the summer sum-mer season. The officers in charge of the benefit are Mrs. Margaret. Hubbard, Hub-bard, president: Mrs. Dennis W. Mullen, Mul-len, first vice president; Mrs. Kate Flaherty, second vice president: Mrs. George Allan Smith, secretary, and Mrs. Margaret O'Kcefe. treasurer. The xecutivr- committee, composed of representative rep-resentative Catholic men, is as follows: Dr. Charles P. Rums. Augustus Manly Man-ly and Dennis W. Mullen. The House of the Good Shepherd has seldom called upon the charily of the public and has made a heroic fight dur- 1 i ing ihe long years of its existence. Now ihe building is greatly overcrowded, sheltering 200 charges and twenty-three twenty-three Sisters. A new wing is greatly needed, and the proceeds of the picnic, should they reach the sum hoped for, will nlmost complete the work.
