Show MEMORIAL CROSS TO FATHER SERRA. At the summit of Roubidoux mountain, near Riverside, Cal., a huge cedar cross has been raised to the memory of Padre Junipero Serra, the noted Franciscan pioneer. On April 2C the cross was solemnly raised and dedicated by Bishop Conaty, in the presence of an immense gathering of Catholics Catho-lics and non-Catholics. . The cene on the mountain is never to be forgotten for-gotten "With the wealth of ritual with which the Catholic church invests its ceremonies, with the nreat gathering of all sorts and conditions of men, from the descendant of the mission Indian to the railroad magnate, with the place high above hu surrounding valley from which could be seen tnc near mountains where the first neophytes of Father Fath-er Serra. were obtained, Right Rev Bishop Conaty. assisted by his clergy, regular ?d diocesan, bWu the huge piece of cedar which is to manifest for all ime Riverside's grateful remembrance of the work performed bv the Franciscans under the leadership f K'onstrueted of .heavy cedar logs. The uppright is twenty-two feet in height and four-tee" four-tee" inches square at the top. . The cross beam is en feet in length. The cross is visible from any wt of the valley. As a final act to the ceremony of dedication. Bishop Conaty drove into the so id rock the bolts whichld in pkee a bronze tablet commemorative the event. The tablet bears the following inscription: Dedicated . "Fra Junipero Serre 1.13-1.. Dedicated April 20. 1007, by the Right Rev.
