Show PUEBLO, COLO. A social session was held by the Knights of Columbus Wednesday evening even-ing at the Woodman hall. 'The affair was a "stag." A great compliment has been paid to tljis city by the presentation of the Co-I Co-I lumbus monument that was unveiled in j thU city Thursdav with appropriate I ceremonies, by the Italian and Spanish- Americans of southern Colorado. And I the people of Pueblo showed their ap-I ap-I prociation of this addition to the city's ( public monuments bv joining heartily I in th celebration of Columbus day, and 1 in welcoming all the visitors in attendance. attend-ance. I It is a rather interesting coincidence in this connection that the colors of the Mag of Italy, red. white and green, should be the s ime as those of our neighboring republic of Mexico, to which we of the west are indebted for ; our pres-nt representation of the Span- . ish race, says the Chieftain. In red, green aod white therefore Pueblo was I decorated in honor not only of the J Italian navigator and the Spanish king-and king-and queen to whom the discovery of our continent is due, but in honor also of our Latin-American citizens that-are contributing so worthilv to the upbuilding up-building of our state. The" Denver '& Rio Grande railroad will, in conjunction with the construction construc-tion of the new roundhouse and shops in Pueblo, erect a frog plant, where frogs' for switches will be manufactured manufac-tured for use on the Denver & Rio Grande system. The frog plant will be the only one of its character in the west, and the Denver & Rio Grande will probably supply other western railroads with frogs besides furnishing its own line. The selection of Pueblo as a location for the frog factory is because be-cause of its convenience to the iron mills of the Colorado Fuel & Iron com pany. George Adams, the sanctimonious individual in-dividual who has been in Bessemer the past few days representing himself to be an Armenian priest and soliciting i funds for his poor countrymen, and I who was willing to take anything, was given a ride in the patrol wagon Tuesday Tues-day afternoon from the cool and bleak end of East Northern avenue to the Hotel McCafferty. Adams owes the Pleasure of the trip down the hill to Officer Stanqo. While many Bessemer people suspected suspect-ed that Adams was a rank fake it was not definitely known until he evidently by mistake drifted into the home of i Father Zupan. The . latter soon dis-i dis-i covered that he had no credentials at all which would show that he had any right to collect donations for any one save. himself. The matter was reported to the police and his arrest followed. For the past faw weeks Bessemer has been infested -with all kinds of tramps end beggars- The beggars are not confined to men by Juiy tieans. One Bessemer merchant sj&t4Linzt less than three different women had called on him during the day asking for various va-rious kinds, of help. The first one was a professional. She claimed that she had a bone cancer inside her head. Her hat was pulled down far over her forehead, fore-head, and she pointed to the spot through her hat as she asked for aid. .The next woman came in and told a story of how she loved the poor orphan children and how she was helping many of them. She offered for sale a pamphlet of few pages. The price was 10 cents. . r. |
