Lnst Sunday was 0 Quinqtiagf-sinia- Sunday, and the Wednesday following was the first day of Lent : 1. All the' days of Lent except Sundays are fast 0 days of obligation. -a 0 2. All persons under 21 years or over 60 years nt age, those who are engaged in hard labor, the sick and convalescent, and those who cannot fast without injury to $ their health, arc exempt from the obligation of fast- Q ing. 0 .3. All bound to keep the fast shall make but one 0 full meal a day. except on Sundays. v 4. The meal permitted on fast days should be taken Q f about noon. - a V A collation is permitted in the evening. 0 0. When the principal meal cannot conveniently be 2 taken about noon, the order may be inverted, so that Q Y the collation may be taken about noon ana the dinner m Y the evening. . 9 Y 7. General usage has made ir lawful to take in the 2 morning a cup of coffee, tea or chocolate, with a small 0 I piece of bread. Y .9 S. Necessity and custom have authorized the use of v Y lard instead of butter in the preparation of all permitted A f00ds' A T S. By dispensation the use of flesh meats is per- Q Y mitted at all meals on Sundays and once a day at the 9 principal meal on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and 0 Y Saturdays, with the exception of Ember Saturday and 9 the last Saturday of Lent. V T 10. Persons exempt from the obligation of fasting 9 may partake of flesh meat at all meals on days when the 0 T use of meat is permitted at the principal meal. 9 11. To afford the faithful opportunities of gaining 9 the. graces of the Lent en season, it is hereby ordered that a in addition to the usual Sunday devotions, Lenten exer- T a cises be held on two evenings of each week in all the A A churches of the diocese to which are attached resident 9 pastors. On one of the evenings an instruction is to be a a given, on the other the Stations of the Cross, and per- 9 mission is hereby given for the Benediction of the a j Q Blessed Sacrament on both evenings.
