Show VALE THE TIP. The Philadelphia Pullman Porters' association is a new organization which is going to get a charter char-ter and do business on modern business principles, having learned something about those principles through contact with gentlemen who make frequent fre-quent trips to llarrisburg, where Pennsylvania has a state house with a graft attachment. It all came about through a decision of the United States ' supreme court that government employes are entitled en-titled to charge tips to Pullman porters as legitimate legiti-mate expense of traveling. Thus, to the mind of the porter, the tip has become legalized, and we may soon expect a schedule of tips to be paid to be prominently displayed in each Pullman car in the country. For carrying a grip to the proper seat, 10 cents. For a pleasant look, 25 cents. For a civil answer, "I don't know, boss," 25 cents. Etc.. etc. The matter should be hailed with delight by the traveling public, for the obsequious porter will soon no longer consider a ten-cent tip as a gratuity but as an insult to the dignity of the profession. |
