" Senator and Mrs. Thomas Kearns entertained en-tertained twenty-four at a handsomely appointed dinner at their home Wednesday Wednes-day evening in honor of Cardinal Gib-bons Gib-bons of Baltimore, Md., who is their guest. The guests were seated at one table, elaborately decorated in pink Chatenay roses with a silver mound of them in the center, over an elegant duchess lace piece. At either end of the table were silver candelabra with pink candles and shades. The place cards were the silver monograms of the hostess. host-ess. ' Delightful music was furnished during the dinner, by an orchestra stationed, sta-tioned, in the lower hall. Other guests from out of town 'who are visiting Senator Sena-tor and Mrs. Kearns are Mr. and Mrs. E. O. McCormlck of Chicago, Bishop O'Connell of San Francisco. Archbishop Glennon of St. Louis and Bishop Foley of Detroit. From 5 to 6 Wednesday afternoon Cardinal Gibbons received at the Kearns home all Baltimore veterans and friends. Mrs. S. C. Adamss and Mrs.- Raymond Masson of Denver and Miss Dorothy Kinney of Portland, Ore., who are visiting visit-ing here, were guests of honor' as a charming yellow luncheon at the Country Coun-try club Wednesday, given by Mrs. William Wil-liam H. Cunningham. The twenty-two guests were seated at a round table, handsomely decorated in golden' glow, with a large mound of the flowers in the center of the table, while at each place were individual vases of the flow ers. Those to meet the guests of honor were Mrs. J. R. Walker, Mrs. Ray Walker, Wal-ker, Mrs. L. L. Savage, Mrs. A. H. Prosser. Mrs. L. B. McCornick; Mrs. S. H. Babcock, ; Mrs. Ernest Bamberger, Mrs. W. Miss Shirley Palmer of Cleveland, O., who is visiting Miss Margaret Dunn, will be the complimented guest this evening at a lake party to be given by the younger set, about twenty-four in number. The Reilly home was the scene of a 500 party ' Saturday afternoon, when Miss Myrtle Reilly and Miss Ethel McDonald Mc-Donald entertained eight tables in honor hon-or of Mrs. John McLennan of Des Moines, la., who is visiting here. The national colors were prettily carried out in the decorations and refreshments. Mrs. Frederick Pieper left Tuesday for Seattle and the Pacific northwest, where she will spend six weeks. Miss Dorothy Kinney, who is visiting at the home of Mrs. John E. Woodward, was the honored guest at a luncheon given at the Country club Tuesday, with Mrs. William Cunningham as the hostess. The table was daintily decorated decorat-ed in sweet peas, and covers were laid for twenty-four guests. " Robert Porter is spending a few days here, from Holladay Park. Mrs. A. T. Moon. Mr. and Mrs. Willard Hanson will be home the last of the week from Brighton. One of the largest affairs of the week will be the private reception to be given this evening in honor of Cardinal Gibbons Gib-bons at the Kearns residence on East South Temple street. Colonel and Mrs. W. H. Sells, formerly former-ly of this city but now of San Francisco, Fran-cisco, are here visiting their daughter, j Mrs. J. T. Richards, for a week or so. Colonel 'Sells is one of the well known veterans of the G. A. R. Mrs. Emily Daly and Miss Edna Daly entertained between . twenty-five and thirty at a' porch party to see the G. A.-R. parade Wednesday,1 followed by a bufflet luncheon. The decorations were in white and 'blue sweet peas. Mr. and . Mrs. Lewis McCornick left luesday for San Francisco, where they were called by the. illness of their little lit-tle daughter, who is there . with her grandmother, Mrs. Salisbury. The child is better and' they are now on their return re-turn trip. Miss McLoughlin of Los . Angeles is here as the guest of her sister, Mrs J C. Hanchett. .'. Donnellan of Sacramento, Sacra-mento, who is spending encampment week here, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs J. J. Daly. Miss Katherine Galligher and Miss Helen McLaughlin of Clinton, la are here as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. j" J. Kinney. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Bintz have returned re-turned from spending the week end at Canyon Crest with Mrs. C. H Mc-Mahon. Mc-Mahon. Mrs. Farrell. Miss Irene Farrell and Howard Farrell of Omaha, who have spent some time here with their daugj- ter and sister. Mrs. B. T. Cannon, will leave Aug. 16 for Seattle. A delightful party was given Monday Mon-day by Mrs. John T. White to about thirty uests at her residence at Whitehall, White-hall, the complimented guests being Miss Martha Johnson and Miss Aimee Best A pyramid of sweet peas in the national colors decorated the dining table, ta-ble, a tall cut glass vase of blue sweet peas being placed in the center of the table, and around it were placed smaller small-er vases of the white blossoms. Surrounding Sur-rounding these were cut glass vases filled with red sweet peas, giving a beautiful tricolor effect. American flags were also- used in the decorations. Coffee Cof-fee was poured by Mrs. J. C. Ross and Mrs. Colin Mcintosh, . while Miss Lydia White presided at the punch bowl. Miss Dorothy Kinney, entertained a party of a dozen friends Monday evening even-ing at "The Merry Widow," taking her guests later to the Country club for a midnight supper. The guests who occupied occu-pied the two stalls on the east were Mrs. John E. Woodward, Miss Van Wyck, Miss McCornick, Miss Genevieve McCornick, Miss Gertrude McGrath, Henry McCornick. C. S. McDonald, Mr. Pringle, C. W. Whitley, Mr. Stimpson and Walker Salisbury. Other theatre parties were given by Samuel ewhouse and by Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Judge. Misses Bessie and Winnie Brennan came to Salt Lake on the excursion from Butte last Wednesday. They were delighted de-lighted with their visit. |
