Show BOSTON TO CHICAGO. Eighteen-hour trains between New York and Chicago have been a feature in the railroad world for a number of years. These trains have proved popular among the traveling public; so popular, in fact, that extra fare is charged on them, which extra amount is refunded if the train arrives at its destination late. The popularity of these fast trains has led the Boston fc Albany railroad, in connection connec-tion with other roads, to institute a train service between Boston and Chicago, whereby it will be possible to leave Boston in the middle of the day and reach Chicago the next morning. The advantages advan-tages to be derived from a fast train between these two cities are -no doubt many" It will enable a man to do business in Boston one day and Chicago the next. It will also gratify the American people's peo-ple's desire for speed. It is an evidence of progress it brings into close communication two cities which, when the nation na-tion was founded, were a month or more apart. The commercial benefits to be derived from close communication com-munication between different parts of the country are many and manifest, but of far greater importance impor-tance are the social and civilizing influences. The different parts of the nation brought together by the bands of steel are united more closely and the interests of one section become of vital interest to another. If there had been communication forty years ago between the north and the south as that now afforded between the east and the middle west, or even the far west, the disastrous war which was fought in the 'COs would have been unthought of. Railroad communication throughout all parts of the country makes for friendship. In short, the whole country becomes as one great municipality. |
