Show j Harold B. Lee Appointed LDS Apostle SUCCEEDS SMOOT ON HIGH COUNCIL New Aposile Born And Reared In Franklin County Harold B. Lee, former resident of this county and well known here, was sustained as a member of the Council of Twelve apostles of trie LDS church at the general conference confer-ence in Salt Lake City last weekend, week-end, lie succeeded Reed Smi, former United States senator and apostla for 40 years who died recently. re-cently. Elder Lee becomes the youngest member of the council at the age of 42 years. He was born March 2S, 1S9J at Clifton, son of Samuel and Louisa Bingham Lee, pioneer residents of this valley. He attended attend-ed the old Oneida Stake academy in Preston, and taught school at Oxford and Weston from 192U l0 1922. He later taught in Salt Lake City-schools, City-schools, resigning to become manager man-ager for. the Foundation Press. Later La-ter he became a Salt Lake CHy commissioner, and in 193G he was named managing director of the 1 Mormon church welfare program, ; a post he, will retain. j His age of 42 makes him the' youngest member of the quorum and makes his eventual succession to the Mormon presidency highly possible. |
