DUCK HUNTING DAY MAY INCREASE TIME Boise (Special) In an effort to furnish Idaho duck hunters with a longer hunting day and to prevent pre-vent destruction of crops by migratory mi-gratory waterfowl, the Idaho Fish and Game commission last week adopted a resolution urging the United States Department of the Interior to permit duck shootting to begin one-half hour before sunrise sun-rise and to close at sunset. L'naer the present law, duck hunting begins be-gins at sunrise and ceases at 4:00 p. m. each day during the season. The resolutiton added that the Fish and Game commission would acquiesce In a program to shorten the length of the season In order to compensate for the longer hours of the shooting period. The resolution read; ". . . farmers far-mers and agriculturists residing in the vicinity of migratory waterfowl water-fowl refuges are having very serious seri-ous difficulty in preventing destruction des-truction of crops by migratory waterfowl and it appears that the number of ducks is increasing annually an-nually and there is now no serious anitcipation of shortage in supply; therefore, be it resolved that every ev-ery effort be made to establish the shooting day extending from one-half one-half hour before sunrise to sunset in order that the additional shooting shoot-ing hours may prevent ducks from gathering in vast numbers in the farmer's fields and destroying crops. Be it further resolved that the Idaho Fish and Game commission commis-sion is willing to acquiesce in a program which will shorten the number of days in order to compensate com-pensate for the longer hours given for the shooting period in - each day." The resolution was adopted by .members of the commission who attended the regular qaurterly meeting in Boise and will be taken up with the proper Federal officials. |
