It was the first league game for J'reston but pre-season dope favored fa-vored the winner of the game to go through to the title. However. Preston still has to face American Falls, Paris, and Montpelier in order or-der and serious trouble is expected from both American Falls and Montpelier, who both boast fine ball clubs. Although Paris is figured fig-ured to be the weak sister in the Preston schedule they may furnish a surprise and battle Preston to a standstill. Preston's game Friday with the American Falls team is expected to be anothr thriller. American Falls proved themselves in a game last week when they took the measure of Rupert 21-19. Rupert was leading the game 19-7 with only one and a half minutes to go and with American Falls in possession of the ball on their own 20-yard line but American Falls never gave up and won 21-19. In last week's game Preston scored in the first seven minutes of play after a 70 yard sustained drive down the field, Marcel Chatterton, Chat-terton, captain, taking the ball over. The rest of the half was battled bat-tled on ever terms with both teams threatening but neither one scoring. scor-ing. Preston drew blood again however how-ever on the first play after the kickoff when Glen Oliverson, local quarterback, went over the left side of his own line, side-stepped the safety man, and raced down field for 62 yards, crossing the goal line standing up. Malad's score came on the first play of the fourth quarter after a 30-yard march. Malad took possession posses-sion of the ball on the Preston 30 yard line following a poor punt. Outstanding for Preston were Captain Chatterton and Glen Oliverson, Oli-verson, swivel-hipped quarterback, on offense and Ralph Bergquist, George Johnson, Blaine Lemmon, and Bill Kerr along with Chatterton Chatter-ton on defense. Malad's outstanding stars were Bob Stratton in the passing and ball toting departments, T. D. Jones in the tailback position and little Elmo Facer in both offense and defensive roles. |
