Show SPORTSMEN, LETS HAVE THE LOW DOWN Game wardens may be in line of duty to Icheck the "kids" from getting a fish that is Ifloundering about in a shallow hole and would die if the "kids" didnt get them, but we will have to be shown, if they are within their rights when they take the big fish, that are grown here, and have escaped the hook, and transport them away from our streams, which are already al-ready about depleted of large fish. Reports reach the Cache American Ameri-can office that a number of youths are to answer to a charge of having game fish in their possession pos-session out of season before the city court in Logan today. Reports also reach this office that the responsible fish and game officials are actually catching the big fish in this valley and taking them to other sections of the I state. The question has been rais-J ed: Which is the greatest crime, to have the youngsters catch fish in canals which have had the water turned out in order to clean the canals ,or to have the game OTicials catch the ' fish in these canals and take them to other places in the state outside of Cache County? Word reaches this office that the big spawners that find then-way then-way to the spillway west of the Hyrum dam, are being captured and carried away from this county coun-ty and taken to othef bodies of water, the view being taken that ' these fish are spawners and therefore, there-fore, should be removed frami our streams. come or ine sportsmen iase exceptions ex-ceptions to this sort of a policy. They contend that the spawners j at Fish lake are liberated in that) lake in order that the fishermen I there can get a chance at catching catch-ing them. The question is raised here, as to why not Odberate these fish in the Hyrum Dam, in, as much as the fish are here and the dam could very nicely take care of a large number of fish. .True, the ' game -; da(partmert plants a great many - fish-in our streams from1 the local hatchery, but many of these are only finger-lings.' finger-lings.' Too often our sportsmen have to content themselves by whipping our streams and be an- I noyed by catching nothing but I fingerlings. To catch a big fellow once in a while would give just as big a thrill to a fisherman here as it would to fishermen in other sections of the state. Lets have the tow down as to Just where the big; fish are being . planted, and Just why these big fish wouldn't do Just as well in waiters in Cache county as they would in other waters in the state? |
