E Riddle About fathers and sons left Cedar City Monday morning July 14 U for the Duck Creek Camping Campine ground to te enjoy an outing Ever Every on ono one that went on this outing outing out out- ing ine enjoyed themselves to the utmost ut ut- most mOlt Fathers had bad th the privilege of fishing hiking playing and sleeping with their sons eons Then too 00 they were were able to show them how bow to cook over overa a camp fire and do the many things that come in camp life Ufe Many fathers fath Path ers era were able to form a companionship companion companion- ship that is ia not BO so prevalent in home life and to court come to the realization that they should shonU be a a pal to their bo boy y As we ca came to the chosen camping I ground at the head bead of Duck Creek the Camp Director Oliver Jensen and Supt Sept M. M J. J Urle Urie were there to direct us where to park our cars can The camp was beautifully laid laid ou out and when an aD the can were can Were parked it looked like lite a small cat city 7 with the space between our can ears canas as main street and our oar camps in the fhe rear as our residences Under the supervision of Mr Jensen and the Scout Masters the camp was well ordered and At the the fall I of the bugle burle every one in the camp came and formed a line for in in- in The stars and stripes were hoisted and a salute given civen by the camp in line Everything was done with order Everyone were to be in camp amp at a certain time in the evening and to leave at a certain time in the morning The Scout Masters Masten had the programs in hand for the day and some BOme interesting events eventa took ploce At in the morning the bugle call brought every one out of bed and at sunrise they were called into line by bythe bythe bythe the bugle when the flag was waa hoisted at the salute of the lines From that time until they were busied in getting gettine breakfast and cleaning up the camp and the camp was carefully Inspected in inspected inspected In- In by the camp director and Supervisor Mace Everything looked like a well kempt city at this period Then came the baseball game between between between be be- tween the fathers and the sons eons The bat was of and and the ball NIl of rubber no gloves save sae the natural b- b The fathers were too much mach for the boys bays and beat them each time Many hikes were taken and many points of interest were visited The ice iee cave Strawberry Point Po Duck Creek the Cedar Breaks and Navajo Lake were the main points of At the Ice Cave Mr Mace gave gaft a splendid lecture on forestry and the care of camp fires the treachery treachery trench ery cry of forest fires etc Each evening a splendid program was rendered where singing speeches and aDd games gamell etc took place Among the main features were personal experience experience ex ex- with a bear by Alex G. G Matheson quartette quintette singing under direction of Bp Corry a talk by Leonard Sargent on The Beauties of Utah and See Utah First Panguitch met with us the last evening strong They furnished a part of the program with us and the parts rendered will long remain in the min minds s of those present The last day there were two very exciting base ball games one between the fathers of Panguitch and and- the fathers of Cedar and the other between between between be be- tween the Scouts of Panguitch and the Scouts of Cedar The Fathers of Cedar Cedar Cedar Ce Ce- dar won by a score of 16 to 17 while the Scouts' Scouts game was a tie 25 to 25 Pan Panguitch itch are anxious to join with us and adjoining Stakes next year Everything went off in first class manner and much credit is due the Scout Masters in maintaining discipline pline and order Mr Jensen also is isto isto isto to be complimented on his splendid ability as a camp director and the camp as a whole are to be complimented compliment compliment- ed on the splendid attention they gave to those in charge and of the hearty response to the programs Good sportsmanship was shown in inmany inmany inmany many cases and especially by some who were late into camp and were given the penalty of being ducked in ina a five gallon bucket of spring water for breaking the rule This penalty was executed on some of the le leaders ders the very first night because of their being late into camp but no names are here mentioned But Dut they learned their lesson and many others profited profit profit- ed thereby There is no doubt but what all who were on the outing will be present next year if they possibly can The outing was under the auspices of the Stake Mutual Improvement Association and is known as the Fathers' Fathers and Sons' Sons outing This movement movement movement move move- ment has been encouraged and outlined outlined out out- lined as a part of M. M I. I A. A work for forthe forthe the past number of years Many of the Stakes north of here bere have carried it out to a great success and the Parowan Parowan Parowan Par- Par owan Stake a year ago had a successful successful success success- ful outing It has be been n carried out as asa asa asa a ward affair in the past each ward taking according to their own pleasure but in the future we hope bope to make it a Stake outing that thatis is to have bave all the Wards join and go goin goin goin in a group Yes even greater than this sa as the Panguitch Stake is anions an- an ions Ion I to meet with us UI and to invite all the surrounding Stakes that is the Kanab Stake the St. St George Georce Stake and the Parowan Stake These Those four should make a big ble event out of it and there would be upwards upward of fathers fathera fathers fath fath- ers era and sons eons out This Thil is possible Then with this thia we could invite some of the General Authorities of the Church to be with us and have one glorious time This should be encouraged encouraged en en- and talked up and planned for |
