Show Canal 0fficia!sMeet With State Engineer June Metcalf, president, and C. H. Childs, secretary, for the Westview Canal company, were called to Salina Monday for a conference with Geo. M. Bacon, state engineer, District Engineer R. J. Gam, and representatives representa-tives from the Salina Lions club. Engineer Bacon was called from Salt Lake to make an investigation of the water conditions and the impending im-pending dangers that may follow the run-off of the waters when warmer weather arrives. Due to the heavy cloudbursts from the canyons east and west of Salina two years ago, much silt and debris has settled above the Westview dam, and many acres of land have been inundated as a result. The diversion dam of the Westview, just south of Redmond, it is claimed, is not properly built and contributes to holding the silt above the dam, thus backing the waters. Mr. Bacon, who with other representatives, made a minute survey of the conditions, announced that he would call the state road commission, the members of the state land board and his own office into the matter, in the hopes of working work-ing out a suitable plan for correcting the clogging of the silt and debris above the dam. |
