Show Splendid Tribute For Valley Pioneer Impressive funeral services for Mrs. Christena Akeson Christenson, Gunnison Valley's oldest resident and ox-cart pioneer, were held from the Gunnison Valley high school last Sunday Sun-day at one-thirty. Hundreds of friends gathered to pay the last farewell to the grand old woman, and the tributes tri-butes paid by the speakers, together with the appropriate musical pro-' pro-' gram, made the services highly impressive. im-pressive. Bishop Chas. E. Embley of the Hamilton ward, was in charge of the services. Joseph A. Larson, Hans C. Olsen, Bishop Chris. A. Peterson and Bishop Embley were among the speakers. Mrs. Christenson, through her long residence here, was widely known, and intimately so by many who spoke. Her life, her beautiful character, and her kindness to all in time of need, were extolled by the speakers. An appropriate musical program was given during the services, and were under the direction of Chas. Ferre. Solos were given by Mi's. Eva Jensen, E. L. Swalberg and M;lton Perkins. Archie Mellor of Manti, made a brief talk and read a poem composed compos-ed by Mrs. Mellor, a tribute to the estimable woman who had been called to the other world. Mrs. Laur-etta. Kidman read a tribute. Following the services at the high school auditorium auditor-ium the body was taken to the Gun-niscn Gun-niscn City cemetery for final interment. inter-ment. A profusion of beautiful floral offerings marked the love and respect held for Mrs. Christenson. Mrs. Emma Taylor, Arthur H. Taylor, Joseph Christenson, Mrs. Ne-phi Ne-phi .Gledhill,, Mrs. John Christenson and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Taylor of Salt Lake; Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Was-den Was-den of Penrose, Wyo., and Mrs. Geo. Ostler of Nephi, were among the immediate im-mediate relatives from outside points attending the funeral. |
