Show Duck Season Closed In Sanpete County Open season for shooting ducks has not been extended until January 15 in Sanpete county, notwithstanding the fact that an article appearing in the Salt Lake papers of recent date that the game laws permitted hunting. hunt-ing. The laws regulating hunting ducks in this county, remains as heretofore here-tofore and closes December 31. Sportsmen' reading the article as it V appeared in the Salt Lake papers were ready to continue hunting until January 15, but after Carl Erikson, secretary-treasurer for the Gunnison Valley Fish and Game Protective association, as-sociation, got in communication with J. Arthur Meacham, state fish and game commissioner, he was advised that the laws in the county had not been changed. Thei-efore, duck hunters hunt-ers are warned to abide by the law and not attempt to hunt ducks until the opening of the season next fall. Secretary Carl Erikson, after dispatching dis-patching a telegram to Mr. Meacham, asking if the article in the Salt Lake Tribune of Jan. 1, 1930, meant a continuation con-tinuation of the open duck season until un-til January 15, received the following reply: "Carl A. Erickson, Gunnison, Utah: Duck season in Sanpete county closed December 31. J. Arthur Meacham, Mea-cham, state game commissioner." Members of the local fish and game club are heartily in accord with the ruling recently issued by Secretary Hyde of the national biological survey, sur-vey, when he announced that the , changes in federal regulations would j go into effect after the present hunting hunt-ing season and that the possession limit would be 30 ducks and eight geese, as gamst 25 ducks and 8 geese under the present status. The bag limit of ducks per day, though, will be 15. This ruling by Secretary Hyde, was made after an extensive investigation wh:ch showed that water wa-ter fowl were not holding their own. |
