Show WAR ON TUBERCULOSIS. Although many more battles remain re-main to be fought, it is encouraging to note the remarkable progress which has been made in the war against tuberculosis during the last .'30 years, in which the death rate has been cut in half. In 190-1 there were only 9107 beds available for tuberculosis patients in hospitals and sanitoria in the United States, as compared with 73,095 beds at present. Much of this advance is due to the work of the National Tuberculosis association as-sociation during more than a quarter century of its existence. By emphasizing empha-sizing the need for rest, fresh air, sanitary living and working conditions, condi-tions, as well as the need for suitable institutions for the treatment of cases in their various stages, this association associa-tion has made a wonderful contribution contribu-tion to the public welfare. But there are still 500,000 cases of tuberculosis in the United States. The work of the association, supported by the sale of the Christmas health seal, must go on. |
