Show 1 " " Sanpete Boy Scouts In Lively Jamboree' Fully 175 Boy Scouts of America, comprising troops from Gunnison, Mt. Pleasant, Spring City, Ephraim, Manti, Fayette and Axtell, and bedecked be-decked in the conventional uniforms, made merry and enjoyed a rattling good time in Gunnison for several hours last Saturday afternoon. The troopers, are members of the Sanpete division of the Bryce Canyon council, and were enjoying the annual "spring jamboree." W. G. Barton, scout executive exe-cutive of the Bryce Canyon council, came down from Ephraim to aid in the festivities, and Commissioner Roy West supervised the festivities. As each caravan came in, they were directed to the Washington school, where it had been planned to hold the sports and various contests. The scene for these, however, was later moved to the Gunnison Valley hign school grounds, which afforded plenty plen-ty of room. Before . moving to the high school, brief ceremonies were held in the city. The troopers were formed in line and a march was made down Main street for a block. On the return of the scouts they were halted in front of the bank and stood attention while J. M. Knighton, acting for Mayor Mo-deen. Mo-deen. gave the boys and their leaders a warm welcome to Gunnison. Mr. Knighton gave hearty praise for the scouts and commended them for the spirit of Americanism shown through their affiliation with the scout organization. or-ganization. "The keys to the city are yours, boys, so turn loose and enjoy the hospitality we have to offer," concluded Mr. Knighton. At the high school track, where some thirteen contests were pulled off, scouts from 12 to 18 years of age taking part, was a scene of great activity and the competition was keen. The results ended with Mt. Pleasant, troop 52, taking first place with 102 points. Spring City, troop 60, was second with 89 points. Ephraim, Eph-raim, troop 26, third with 56 points; Ephraim, troop 24, fourth with 53 points; Mt. Pleasant,, troop 53, fifth with 36 points; Fayette, troop 71, sixth with 29 points; Manti, troop 40, seventh, with 29'2 points; Manti, troop 42, eighth, with 15 points, and Gunnison, troop 20, ninth, with 13 points. |
