Show Local Tracksters Take County Meet By rolling up many second and third places, together with garnering firsts in a number of events, the Gunnison Gun-nison Valley high school trackmen captured first place in the Sanpete county track meet held at Manti Wednesday of last week. The Gunnison Gun-nison lads counted a total of 82 points to capture the honors. Wasatch academy was second, with a total of 69, and Ephraim counted third with a score of 33 points. North Sanpete rounded out with 23, while Manti tailed in last with onlv 15 Doints. In the summary of the various events, the Gunnison Valley high I school showed as follows: 100-yard I dash, " Mclff was first, D. Andersen I second and B. Anderson third. Mclff 's j time was :11. In the 120-yard high ; hurdles, Despain landed third place; ! in the 440-yard dash, Dennison took second, while Pierce took fifth place; in the mile run, Hill of Gunnison captured first and Bartholomew pranced in for fourth; in the shot-put, shot-put, Despain showed in third place, while B. Anderson came in 4th; B. Anderson took the 220-yard dash, and D. Andersen landed second; Lund was second in the pole vault; Despain of Gunnison and Dart of Wasatch academy tied in the discus throw, while Embley came in third; W. Hill of Gunnison was second in the 880-yard 880-yard run, and Kaneko won fifth ; W. Hill showed second in the broad jump; Despain, Hill and Pierce were second, third and fourth in the javelin; jave-lin; Gunnison was second in the medley med-ley relay, first in the 880-yard relay, and first in the mile relay. The track meet at the county seat was really successful, as practically all schools were represented, and the victory of the local tracksters is to be commended. |
