Show Gunnison Ball Pans Name New Leaders Reorganization of baseball in Gunnison, Gun-nison, for this year, was effected at a well-attended meeting held at the City hall last Friday evening. Officers Offi-cers named to pilot the affairs of the club for the season were made and J. J. Thorpe was unanimously named as president. Fred H. Jones was the successful candidate for the vice-presidency, vice-presidency, and Blain Larson will serve as secretary-treasurer. The selection sel-ection of a local manager was deferred de-ferred until a later date. Many important matters were discussed dis-cussed that concerns the sport for the season. The local boys favored a league and it was indicated that Ephraim, Nephi, Salina, Elsinore, Monroe and Richfield, together with Gunnison, would form a splendid seven-league bunch, and to further the plans the several towns mentioned mention-ed will be asked for decisions as to whether they will enter. Strictly home players, boys residing resid-ing in the towns in which they are to play will only be eligible, according accord-ing to the sentiment of the fans at Pridav's mppt.intr tn rtnrtieinnfA in games. Last year any player within the district combining the league was privileged to play with any of the teams. The Gunnison fans also went on record as favoring the plan that the gate receipts go to the home teams. This was stressed with the view of instilling a greater spirit in some of the towns to get the crowds out. Heretofore, the division of gate' receipts have been one-sided, as some of the towns in Sanpete and Sevier usually get the. big crowds, while in other parts scarcely sufficient funds are gathered from admission tickets to pay for gasoline. Salina, Ephraim, Monroe, Richfield, Elsinore and Nephi are yet to hold the local meetings. When this is done a meeting of all managers will be called and rules and a schedule will be completed. |
