Show Raging Blaze Takes Centerfield Building Fire, believed fb have been started from an infected flue, practically destroyed des-troyed the home owned by Lando Childs at Centerfield at 8:30 Saturday Satur-day morning. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Mahngren were occupying the place, and the fire broke out during the absence ab-sence of Mr. Malmgren. However, Mrs. Malmgren gave the alarm and soon hundreds of firefighters were on the scene. The Gunnison fire department depart-ment was called intd service and made a hurried run to the scene of the blaze, and soon had it under control. con-trol. Gaining headway, the fire spread rapidly and only the walls remain of the structure. Citizens who had been called made a mad rush into the burning building build-ing and carried out furniture, bedclothes bed-clothes and wearing apparel, so that no real loss came from these sources. The house, containing five rooms, was built of rock and lumber. Three of the rooms were of lumber, having been built as an addition after the 2-room rock structure had been built. The loss to the building is estimated at about $1,000, fully insured. Mr., and Mrs. Edwin Malmgren and Mrs. Annie Brooksbank, occupants of the place, are highly grateful to the telephone operator, whose quick service ser-vice brought the fire department to the scene, and to all citizens who worked as heroes to save the belongings belong-ings within the burning building. |
