In a thrilling basketball contest between be-tween the Gunnison Bulldogs and the Manti quint Monday evening, Coach Alexander's boys took odds on the Manti floor and won one of the greatest great-est viciories of the season, besting the Temple City lads by a score of 30 to 27. Until Monday's clash the two teams were tied, each having credit for five victories and one loss, and both groups of players were set for the big melee. Gunnison, however, took the lead at the start and held it until the close of the game. In the third quarter, though, Manti tallied two more points than did the Bulldogs, Bull-dogs, but in the other three quarters the Gunnel's led nicely in scoring. Beck and Mortenson, two Bulldog stellar players, carried out their usual pogrom of score making. Beck hit the high score of 12, while Mortenson was a close second with 11 points. A big crowd of fans from Gunnison went to the game, but due to an overcrowded over-crowded house many were disappointed disappoint-ed because they were unable to get into the building. The Bulldogs, by beating Manti, forged ahead toward the much sought for title. To win the trip to the state tournament, Gunnison will have to cash in on two more victories. If they defeat Wasatch academy here tomorrow, tomor-row, Friday, night, and then handle Ephraim successfully a week hence, Gunnison will have cinched first place. Wasatch is not regarded as a hazard, and while Gunnison beat Ephraim on its own court by a score of 27 to 24, it is believed that with the visitors here they will be more easily handled. The dope is that the Bulldogs will win both games, which will mean a :rip to the state tourney. The score: GUNNISON. G. T. F. P.
