Show Scientific Group To Visit Canyons A remarkable scenic and scientific expedition to the Yellowstone National Na-tional park, and the canyons in Southern Utah, has been planned as the concluding feature of the summer session at the Utah State Agricultural Agricultur-al college, according to a recent announcement an-nouncement by President E. G. Peterson. Pe-terson. The expedit'on will be headed by Dr. Lawrence M. Gould, of Carle-ton Carle-ton college, Northfield, Minn., noted explorer and geologist, and a member mem-ber of the visiting summer school faculty. Dr. Gould was second in command, and geologist and geographer geo-grapher of the first Byrd Antarctic expedition, and college authorit'es feel that no better leader could have been selected. His record in the Arctic Arc-tic and Antarctic stamps him as a great explorer and able geologist. He will be aided by other experts in geology, botany, and zoology. One week will be spent in the mag-n'ficent mag-n'ficent scenic area north of Logan, including Yellowstone park, Jack-i Jack-i son's hole, and the western Wyoming ! section. Following this another week will be spent in the canyons of ; Southern Utah. The northern trip 'will begin Saturday, July 20, and night stops will be made at West i Yellowstone, Canyon, Mammoth, Old Faithful, and Jackson. Returning to Logan, the party will then go southward, south-ward, leaving July 27. The program includes night stops at Grand Canyon, Can-yon, reached through Kaibab forest, Bryce Canyon and Cedflr Breaks. TVs tour will conclude August 1. The expedition is being planned particularly for those who want to know something of the scientific basis of many of the country's most remarkable beauty spots. It is not intended, however, that the emphasis will be wholly se'entific to the neglect ne-glect of the pleasurable appreciation of the beauty of the places visited. A number of inquiries have already been received at the college relative t' details of the tour, and information informa-tion concerning means of travel, routes, meals and lodg'ng is being ! sent to thosa who request it. Arrangements can be made to take either one or both of the trips, regis-itration regis-itration for which should be completed complet-ed by July 10. 1 |
