Show ILivestock: .SituationJ gPNAUOHBOwl - T Fiesta this week. Lots of the folks from the country are in and we just f'nished a wonderful display of horses and horsemanship, made up largely : of ranchers, riding clubs, etc., the greatest pageant ever seen in any part of the United States. This feature fea-ture of the affair was an expression of good-will something that money can't buy. The rodeo is a California institution institu-tion and more than 75,000 people witnessed the "buckaroos" from Nevada, Nev-ada, Oregon, Utah, Idaho, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Montana, Wyoming Wyom-ing and Colorado, who vied with each other to get their share of the big purse hung up on this occasion. It was also given an international aspect as-pect by the presence of "cow wad-dies" wad-dies" from over the Canadian border. Everybody certainly seemed to be i enjoying the recess from business. The cattle market opened up this week steady and strong. All classes were somewhat higher, showing increased in-creased strength. The snappy demand locally was a very welcome feature withe wi-the Los Angeles market. Another encouraging en-couraging thing is the breaking up of our prolonged hot spell, which has had its effect with the consumer. This week's receipts evidenced a shortage of quality, mostly medium to common. com-mon. The undertone for quality stuff is strong with the belief that the mar- ket will soon show some reaction to j higher levels. Good light steers that I will make baby beef are quotable from $8.00 to $8.50 per cwt., not many in the offing. Good heavy fed steers are quotable from $7.00 to $7.50 per cwt. The Imperial Valley supply is practically exhausted. The remaining few will be cleaned up this week, and there is not enough in local feed lots to anywhere nearly meet the daily demand of the market ' for any considerable period. j The hog situation remains about as it was porkers around 180 pounds quotable on the local market at $7.25. The lamb situation has remained about steady for the past two weeks, showing strength in spots. Local receipts re-ceipts on the market have been rather ra-ther light in the last few days and without much chance for a real price test. It looks like there might be a considerable number of lambs going ; into the feedlots in this vicinity with-. in the next few weeks, but there is very little likelihood of supplies from ! that source becoming burdensome, j when we consider that the Los Angel- j es slaughter for the first seven ' months of this year totals 614,118 head, an average of 20,135 per week, j We have all been attending La! |
