Show Local Lions Club Aiding In Relief Realizing that the long drouth, brought by a baking hot sun and lack of rain, has resulted in the lowering of the crop values in this valley more than fifty per cent, the Gunnison Lions club, at a recent meeting, heard reports of a survey of the prevailing pre-vailing conditions, and as a whole the club became interested in working out a relief measure, which, if considered consider-ed favorably by the Federal Land Bank of Berkeley, will offer a great help to the farmers. A resolution asking that the Federal Land Bank ucuai c a. muiaiui luin vil 111 Jiy ments of principal and interest on all loans to landowners in this section for a period of one year, was made by the club, and the resolution also asks that the request be put Into effect ef-fect at once. Agriculturists of the Gunnison valley have been hit with a shortage of water, and due to prevailing pre-vailing crop prices, have been unable to dispose of the products and consequently con-sequently are in as bad a condition, if not worse, than in other places where the Federal Land bank has made extensions of interest and principal prin-cipal payments. Representatives in the United States congress from Utah, including Senator Reed Smoot, Senator W. H. King, Congressman Don B. Colton, and Congressman Fred Loofbourow, have been appealed to and aid is promised from the state's national representatives. Senator Reed Smoot has forwarded a reply, saying, "Have already taken the matter up, on petitions peti-tions of many farmers in Southern Utah." The resolutions prepared and adopted by the Gunnison Lions club, and a copy of which has been forwarded for-warded to the bank at Berkeley, are as follows: WHEREAS, The Lions club of Gunnison, Utah, County of Sanpete, State of Utah, in regular session, unanimously agreed that a dire emergency emer-gency exists among the farmers and landowners in this section, due to an extreme drouth and further to the extremely low prices of livestock and all farm produce. Therefore be it resolved: That this club take action and request that the Federal Land Bank of Berkeley, California, Cal-ifornia, declare a moratorium on all payments of principal and interest on all loans to landowners in this section sec-tion for the period of one year, effective ef-fective at once.- Providing, that the assets on which these loans are made be maintained and that the interest due, or to become due, during this period, be added to the principal when due. It is the unanimous opinion of the members of this club that unless such is put. into effect, our landowners landown-ers and farmers will suffer to the (Continued on last page) Local Lions Club Aiding In Relief (Continued from page 1) extent that many families will be deprived de-prived of the necessities of life; be unable to maintain their children in school; unable to pay their taxes, or to maintain so that they will be able to operate their farms another year. This section is wholly a farming section sec-tion and the welfare of the entire community is dependent on the maintenance main-tenance of our farms.
