Show Mountain States Co. ImprovesTrunkLine Unsightly poles, acting as the trunk line for the Mountain States Telephone Tele-phone & Telegraph company, along the main thoroughfare of Gunnison, are to be removed and placed along First East street, according to a program that has been mapped out by the telephone company. J. A. Green, who is supervising foreman for a $250,000 improvement project by the Mountain States company, stated yesterday that as soon as possible, the poles on Main street here would be removed and placed one block east. This change will be greeted by the citizens as it will greatly beautify the city. Not only this, but the change will avert hazards in auto driving and will afford more room for parking and making turns. Mr. Green stated that the Mountain Moun-tain States company, before the present pres-ent program was completed, would make improvements in the company lines from Salt Lake, south to a point 80 miles below the north Arizona lines. Reconstruction of the circuits will be carried out from the capitol city to Richfield. The iron trunk line, which has been a source of much trouble, is to be replaced with copper. cop-per. Two additional lines will be strung between Salina and Richfield, and two between Ephraim and Man-ti, Man-ti, for the purpose of improving the long distance service. An additional line will be added between Provo and Salt Lake, and through this much of j the congested operations now existing exist-ing will be overcome and the southern south-ern sections will then be able to get better service. New poles and cross-arms along the trunk line, where needed, are being be-ing replaced and the system will be put in first-class shape, and with the connection of the Southern Bell Telephone Tele-phone company of Arizona, the field of service for the Mountain States company will be broadened. Reconstructing the line and making mak-ing the additional and improved service, ser-vice, will take several months, accord-in? accord-in? to Mr. Green. Sixteen crews are now scattered along the line replacing replac-ing poles and arms, and engineers are working ahead outlining the work and locating new sites. Some sixteen men are now located in Gunnison, working both north and south. It will require nearly two months to complete the work in this vicinity. |
