Show C. E. Convention Convenes Monday ; Gunnison is to have the honor of i entertaining the second annual dis-i dis-i trict convention of the Christian En-; En-; deavor society next Monday and j Tuesday, May 5th and 6th, when en-! en-! deavorers will come to Gunnison from ! the various towns of Southern Utah. The convention will open for the first session at 4 o'clock Monday after-nonn, after-nonn, the outside speakers and travelers trav-elers coming to this city from Ogden and Payson, where other district conventions are to be held previous to the local gathering. Among the Christian Endeavorers who will be present at the two-day session here are Miss Madilene Carter of Topeka, Kansas, Rev. C. E. Gaffney, evangelistic evangel-istic chairman of the Utah Endeavor society, Salt Lake, Miss Lily King, state secretary of the society, Salt Lake, Prof. E. F .Gardeman, district president, and Rev. A. V. Boand, state president, both of Mt. Pleasant. Pleas-ant. Following the addresses of welcome and the opening messages Monday afternoon af-ternoon ,a banquet will be given in the chapel at six thirty. The banquet ban-quet will be under the direction of the local Missionary society. A splendid splen-did program of after-dinner speeches will follow immediately after the banquet. Miss Carter will be the principal speaker at the Monday evening services, serv-ices, which will convene at 7:45. Miss Carter will use as her theme "Where There is no Vision, Christian Endeavor En-deavor Perishes." Opening services Monday afternoon will start with a song service and will be led by Miss Mary McCallum and invocation will be offered by Rev. Boand. The addresses of welcome will be given by Miss Helen Overfelt and Prof. E. F. Gardeman. The response re-sponse will be made by Miss Lily King. At 4:45 Rev. C. E. Gaffney will give an address on "Endeavor In Utah, and Miss McCallum will follow with a solo, after which adjournment will be taken for the banquet. After-dinner' After-dinner' talks will be made by Miss Lily King on "Gunnison, We've Heard of You." Hazel Jensen will use as here theme, "We're Only Endeavoring Endeavor-ing to Do Our Part." Mrs. Villard will respond to "What Endeavor Has Done for Our Young People," and "A Greater Year In C. E." will be the after-dinner talk by Prof. Garde-mann. Garde-mann. "The Male Contingent," by Antone Villard and "Why We're Here Tonight," by Rev. A. V. Boand, will conclude the talks immediately following fol-lowing the banquet. At 7:45 a song service will mark the opening evening service, and Mrs. D. H. Duckering will conduct devotionals. Following a selection by Mrs. R. J. Parr, Miss Carter will be formally introduced by Mrs. H. W. Cherry. Miss Carter will give the principal address for the Monday evening service. A solo by Mrs. R. C. Norman, a closing hymn and benediction benedic-tion will conclude the opening day's work of the convention. Tuesday's program will open with a song service and devotional lasting last-ing until 9:15 when group meetings will be held. Rev. Gaffney will be the leader with the adults and he will make an address on "What C. E. Can Mean to Young People." Miss Carter Cart-er will talk to the Endeavorers, using us-ing as her subject, "Better Endeavor." Endeav-or." Special music will be furnished by students from the Wasatch acad-; acad-; emy ,an address will be given by Miss Carter and Rev. Boand and a solo by Miss McCallum and the closing clos-ing songs will conclude the meetings of the Endeavors. All the sessions ai-e opened to the j public and those having the conven-; conven-; tion in charge are desirous of extend- ing a cordial invitation to all to be j present. I |
