Show Keen Contests In School Track Meet The track event meet, held by the : students of the Washington school Monday of this week, not only proved keen and interesting, but many of the students demonstrated their ability abil-ity in athletics and some clever scores were recorded by those participating parti-cipating in the many events. The fifth and eighth, grades were pitted against the sixth and seventh grades, boys and girls both taking active parts. Many of the contests were keen and at times were so close that "rooters" for the respective sides were loud in their demonstrations and the victories were roundly applauded. ap-plauded. Following is a report of the events, together with the victors and those wining second and third places in the many events: Boys Events: 50-yard dash La-Burnis La-Burnis Kearns, 1st; Earl Jensen, 2nd; John Earnstin, 3rd. Boys 150-yard dash Elray Foote, 1st;' Earl Jensen, 2nd; Roy Norris, 3rd. Boys Relay Race, fifth and eighth grades, 1st; sixth and seventh, 2nd. High Jump Lindell Rasmussen, 1st; Lloyd Petty, 2nd; Elair Tollestrup, 3rd. Broad Jump Aaron Jensen, 1st; Earl Jensen, Jen-sen, 2nd; Duane Tollestrup, 3rd. Pole Vault Aaron Jensen, 1st; Edgar Peterson, 2nd; Luzon Snow and Duane Du-ane Tollestrup, tied for 3rd. Shot Put Rulon Mansfield, 1st; Lyndell Rasmussen, 2nd; Max Edwards, 3rd. Girls Events 25-yard Dash, Rhea Ferre and Ada Lund, tied for 1st; Javenta Kearns, 3rd. Fifty-yard race Javenta Keai-ns, 1st; Rhea Ferre, 2nd; Ada Lund, 3rd. Relay Race Fifth and 8th grades, 1st; 6th and seventh, 2nd. High Jump Betty Villard, 1st; Lois OVerefelt and Alda Metcalf, tied for 2nd. Broad Jump Betty Villard, 1st; Lois Overfelt, 2nd; Helen Swain, 3rd. Throwing basket ball Betty Villard, 1st; Imelda Peterson, Pet-erson, 2nd; Bernice Mansfield, 3rd. Throwing Baseball Erma Sorenson, 1st; Ada Lund and"Mary Baxter, tied for second. The total points for the boys of the eighth and fifth grades, was 35V2 points. The boys from the sixth and seventh grades, came out with 26 points. The total points for the girls of the fifth and eighth grades was 38 points, while the sixth and seventh grades finished with 24 ponts to their credit. The school faculty acted as judges and in addition to the students of the various departments of the school not participating, quite a number of parents and other visitors witnessed the exhibitions. |
