Show Prominent Woman Is Dangerously III "The condition of Mrs. Knighton is unchanged and her condition is critical, very little hope being held for her recovery," is the message received re-ceived here this morning at 8 o'clock from J. M. Knighton from Salt Lake. Mrs. Knighton, one of the most prominent social leaders of Gunnison was stricken last Friday with an ac-cute ac-cute attack of appendicitis. At first' it was thought that the affliction was not serious, but conditions be-came be-came worse and late Saturday even-ing even-ing she was rushed to Salt Lake and Sunday morning at 2 o'clock she underwent un-derwent an operation when it was found that the appendix had been ruptured. The stricken woman rallied, ral-lied, however, and high hopes were held for her quick recovery. Later, however, peritonitis developed and her condition became alarming. Word was dispatched to relatives here yesterday from Salt Lake that practically all hopes had been abandoned aban-doned and that it would only be a matter of a few days until death claimed the estimable woman. Mr. Knighton stated this morning that the doctors were very much dis couraged, as the condition of Mrs. Knighton was unchanged and that the only chance was that if the vitality of the woman was sufficient to overcome over-come the deadly; poison there would be a small chance. Mrs. Knighton, until her attack on Friday, had always enjoyed the very best of health. She is 60 years of age, however, and with this it makes the fighting chances much worse. The sad messages received here has cast a gloom of sorrow and anxiety among the hosts of friends of Mrs. Knighton Knigh-ton and all are praying that she will - b& able to resist the poison and regain re-gain her health. |
