A five mile sec-; tion has been completed anil work is ; being pushed on the other five miles of the section on which work is being: done. j Ranger Anderson reports work is j progressing satisfactorily on the Millers Flat road, however, due to the ! heavy and almost continuous rains during the past week, work was retarded re-tarded for two or three days. Owing to the unusual amount of precipitation precipita-tion this fall the soil is in excellent shape for road building. !- MANTI NATIONAL FOREST NOTES I i 1- The John H. Seely & Sons Co. of Mt. Pleasant, removed 351 head of rams from the Manti Forest on August Aug-ust 25. After driving the lambs from the mountain to the ranch they averaged aver-aged 8G lbs. per head which is considered consid-ered exceptionally good for April lambs. Many of the larger lambs weighed more thn 100 lbs. per head. Local sheepmen are somewhat alarmed over the outbreak of Hem-morrhagic Hem-morrhagic septicemia, or stockyard pneumonia. Dr. W. E. Thorpe, a local veterinarian, has been busy assisting veterinarians from Juab county in vaccinating all sheep that have been exposed to this disease. There are three types of the disease, each working work-ing in a different way. The vaccination, vaccina-tion, however, immunizes all animals from all the three types and since it costs only 10 to 15 cents for vaccinating vaccina-ting each animal, it is thought that the outbreak will soon be checked. Announcement has been made that an examination for the position of Forest Ranger will be held in ibe near future. The date of the examination examina-tion is not given, however, the final date for receiving applications at the Commission's office will close on October 17. Anyone wishing to take the Ranger examination must file his application so as to reach the Civil Service Commission on or before that date. No entrants will be allowed who have not been furnished with cards admitting them to the examination. Heretofore applicants could secure the necessary papers and take the j examination if they so desired on the I date the examination was given. . On September 23 it was noticed that Mt. Timpanogos and the mountains moun-tains north, as well as the mountains in the Ashley Forest,had a good covering of snow wbile the mountains south of Provo Canyon on the Uinta, Mt. Nebo, and the Manti Forest were visited by rain and hail only. If the temperatures were any lower on the north Uinta, the Wasatch, and the Ashley Forests than they were here on the Manti, the Forest users up that way can with propriety sing, "Summer "Sum-mer is gone and the days grow cold." The Fairview Fish and Game club have this season planted 30 cans of brook trout from the Federal Hatchery. Hatch-ery. Ten cans of these fish were plan-, ted in Sanpitch and 20 cans were planted in Gooseberry Creek. During the last 30 days the State Hatchery, through Deputy Commissioner Poul-sen, Poul-sen, planted 30 cans in Boulger, 30 cans in the Huntington creek, 3. cans . |
