Show Small Still Raided; Sugar Confiscated Six sacks of sugar, a revolver, valu ed at $28, a three gallon tea pot and the necessary "worm" a pint and a half of "moonshine" and a fine of $350 is what it cost P. M. Peterson for making what he termed, a bit of the spirits for a toddy. Peterson was visited by a federal prohibition officer and Deputy Sheriff Carlson last Saturday Sat-urday and after a brief search about the premises a small "still" and about eight pounds of mash were found. The offender made no objections for the search and when it was located stated to the arresting officer that it was his property and added, however, how-ever, that he was not selling any of !.he liquor and that he was only manufacturing man-ufacturing about a pint a month for his own personal use. Following the arrest Peterson was .'given his freedom on his own recognizance, recog-nizance, being advised that his case would be taken up later. Tuesday af 'ternoon Sheriff Carlson came from 'Manti and at the hearing at the county coun-ty seat Peterson entered a plea of ruilty of manufacturing whiskey, but ! not to "bootlegging". A fine of $350 was levied which was paid. The sugar and revolver, however, were not returned, it is said ' and now housewives, merchants and j others who have a sack of sugar or nore are wondering. j |
