Show Gunnison's City Park Being Made Attractive Through the activities of the members mem-bers of the city council and the cooperation co-operation of Emil Hansen, agricultural agricul-tural architect from the Agricultural college at Logan, Gunnison city park is being widely improved and with the completion of the program mapped map-ped out the city can boast of one of the prettiest and most attractive of any in the county. During the past several weeks work has been going ahead and today there is a vast difference dif-ference as compared with former years. Many changes have been, made in the arrangement and under the new plan as suggested by Mr. Hansen Han-sen there will be an athletic field, a communlity center and a plot that will be conveniently arranged and - comfortably fixed to accomodate the tourist travelers. There are approximately six acres in the park and some three and a half acres have been set aside for the base ball grounds and a place where ath- j letic stunts can be held. . This is lo- cated on the west side where the j grandstand has been removed. i At the southeast corner of the park has been planted and a number of trees have been planted and soon this will be planted to grass. The plans are to erect a band stand in the center of this section. This part of the park is to be known as a "community "commu-nity center," and will be used as a playground for all at any time. It will be made an ideal outing ground for the younger children where they will be safe from danger. At the southeast corner of the park much work is being done to make an ideal camping site for tourists travelers travel-ers who would avail themselves of the conveniences that will be afforded. afford-ed. The plans are to erect two or more furnaces where visitors or travelers trav-elers can do cooking. The furnaces will be built of cobblestones and will have a rustic effect. Water, electric i lights, wood, tables, and other con- j vineces will be arranged. There are a number of trees in this part of the rpark planted a number of years ago ithati will afford an abundance' of ; shade and underneath these tables 'will be arranged for the convenience of visitors who would remain over for a rest and a visit. There will be four toilets conveniently situated and these will be enclosed in a lattice work. A .plan is being worked out by the citizens to provide for the building a high board fence between the community com-munity center, the tourists camp-Ung camp-Ung ground and athletic field. A cooperative co-operative scheme has been suggested and in all likylihood this will . be carried out. Another improvement and one that would add attractiveness to the park is the building of a "Pioneer Monument" Monu-ment" at the intersection of the roads leading to Nephi and Manti. Plans pre beir.g worked out to use the triangle tri-angle as a miniture park for the monument. It has 'been (suggested that a lawn be planted and that a monument be erected in memory of the pioneers who first settled in Gunnison. There was some thirty of the pioneers in the little band that located here and more than likely the names of those sturdy pioneers will be inscribed on the monument. The memory tablet will be equipped with a fountain and will afford a i convenient place to quench the thirst iof the traveler. Mr. Hansen, who spent a portion of his time here Tuesday and! Wednesday, Wed-nesday, is highly pleased with the prospects of the park and stated that if the citizens would, cooperate in making the improvements Gunnison would have a wonderful and attractive attrac-tive park. Lloyd Anderson is now employed in caring for the trees, levelling lev-elling the grounds and planting the lawns and soon this work will be complete. To celebrate the many improvements it has been suggested that a day be set 'aside and that all residents of the valley join in dedicating dedi-cating the park with an appropriate program and celebration. - " |
