Show Young Stockmen Plan Active Year The Gunnison Valley Livestock club, . just recently organized are out to win and win big, said one of the officers yesterday. The club members are making great plans for the summer work and by fall and when the heifes lately received from the northwest, are fresh every member mem-ber will start in the dairy business in real fashion. Not only are the members of the heifer club doing things, but the boys having memberships mem-berships in the Orphan Lamb club are active. Many of the lads have started out with as high as five or six. orphan lambs and are already laying' plans to care for big flocks in a .few years. More than the usual us-ual interest ' is being taken in the work 'and (the very fact that ibi'g things are to be done is arousing interest with boys who are not already al-ready members. " The dairying business is to be a big factor in the Gunnison Valley and the young men backing the livestock club will be the real starters. With the cheese factory already running at Gunnison, there will be ready market mar-ket for all milk that can be produced. produc-ed. And it will not only create activity ac-tivity for the members of the club but it will prove a big benefit to the farmers of the valley furnishing a ready market and the distribution of $1000 to $3000 in cash every month As an illustration of the success and financial gain that will follow is illustrated by a 11-year-old boy of this city, Ray Hermansen, son of N. L. Hermansen, Ray cares for two cows, doing the feeding and milking. In addition he cares for 150 chickens chick-ens and and the sale of milk, eggs and butter showed the ' handsome gross ! return of $76! " ' - Not only are members of the clubs receiving encouragement from the residents of the city and valley, but financial aid is coming from as far as Ogden. A check for $2 from J. ; H. Manderfield, general manager for the Salt Lake Union Stock Yards was received the first of the week. Manager Manderfield, one of the best known stockmen in the -west, commends com-mends the boys on their activities and wishes them every success in their undertakings. |
