Show Centerfield Pays Honor to Pioneers Pioneer clay celebration in Center-field Center-field proved highly successful a. I many visitors joined with the h:i..l citizens in paying tribute to the stuiMy pioneers who came , here eighty years ago and paved the w.iy for those who are now enjoying t'-.j beauties, thrift and happiness that, has resulted. The celebration was managed throughout by the Mutual organizations of the Centerfield ward and much credit is due those who successfully brought to a close a day of happiness. Ideal weather prevailed which Hided Hid-ed materially in the celebration. Many of the older folks were enabled en-abled to be out and join in the festivities. fes-tivities. The big crowd of young folks were out in forces and everybody every-body joined in making the day one long to be remembered. At the morning services a splendid splen-did program was given. A splendid tribute was paid the pioneers who blazed the trail across the bleak and barren deserts, by Bishop C. A. Peterson. Pet-erson. Mr. Peterson gave a graphic I description of the hardships and trials of the sturdy pioneers who I came to Utah eighty years ago. and j eulogized the several brigades that j faced death and starvation wh--n crossing the plains to locate a new Zion. In addition to Bishop Peterson's Peter-son's address, there were soners, mu- sical selections, short talks, and throughout the program was highly ; enjoyed. Miss Izola Sorenson, (laughter of S Mr. anil Mrs. P. M. Sorenson, was I the popular choice as the one to rev-i rev-i resent "Utah," her vote being far ' ahead of other competitors. "Brig-j "Brig-j ham" was present at the meeting and was depicted in true style, j The young ladies of the Mutual I conducted a confectionery stanl. and i the young men a "hot dog" stand and j all visitors were satisfied with dain- ty refreshments. The closing exer-i exer-i cises for the afternoon consisted of , sports, which proved spirited and in-I in-I teresting. |
