Show "TAME" WOLF KILLED AFTER LIVELY MIXUP Animal's Brief Freedom Full of Excitement. I Philadelphia. A wolf, which broke from its cage on a near-by farm, appeared ap-peared on the lawn of the residenca of C. G. Cholmeley-Jones, West Chester Ches-ter pike and Eagle road, Manoa, and started for Mrs. Cholmeley-Jones. She promptly hurried over to the other side of the lawn, picked up her child, Gloria, three years old, and ran into the house. She then sent for the gardener, John Williams, negro, and when he appeared on the lawn, armed with a club, he found the wolf about to leap on Queenie, the valuable police dog of Mr. Cholmeley-Jones, chained at the side of the house. As Williams started for the wolf, the animal stepped backward and bared its teeth, and when it seemed ready to leap, the gardener brought his club down on the animal's head, stunning it. He then ran into the garage and obtained an ax, with which he killed the animal. Harry Campbell, its owner, later said the wolf, which was nearly four feet long and weighing about C5 pounds, was a tame wolf and would not have injured in-jured anyone. He explained that it had broken loose from Its cage on his farm. |
