Show Harvest of Beets Starts Next Monday All is in readiness for starting the sugar beet campaign throughout the district covered by the Gunnison Sugar company and next Monday digging of the thousands of acres of beets will Ik started. The campaign for digging has been well organized and ample help for the start has been provided for. The several new dumps , in Sanpete, Sevier and Utah euur:-! euur:-! ties are in readiness to receive the ' crop, the big mill has been tested and found in perfect order and cap-j cap-j able of handling a larger daily tonnage ton-nage than ever before and weather conditions promise favorable for opening op-ening the campaign. When digging is well under way, a school vacation S will be declared and the students will j be in the fields for nearly t vo j weeks. The vacation will start ';n the 14th of October. Notwithstanding the fact that the crop was threatened and some dam-! dam-! age resulted from the pest that -: vastated the crop of 1920, the oft'i-! oft'i-! cials of the company are optimistic and are of the belief that fifty ptr cent of the beets have matured sufficiently suf-ficiently to yield splendid returns In sugar. Field testing, which has been carried on during the past week or ten days, indicate a hih per eentaf ; Baccharine and with the Tiliy ' per j cent crop, and possibilities of hisrh i priced sugar, the outlook is not dis-I dis-I couraging for the grower and pro-i pro-i ducer. ! When the campaign starts with , digging, topping and hauling, the district will present a lively place, as some 2,700 men will be employed in ! the fields and in the dumps. |
