Show INDIVIDUAL THRIFT Have you $160 for each, member of your family in the savings banks ? If not, go. and ask for it at the cashier's cashi-er's window. If he won't come through, start a systematic savings account tomorrow so that you may not be behind the procession. According Ac-cording to the American Bankers' Association, the aggregate deposits in the savings banks of the nation passed seventeen billion in 1922, almost al-most enough to pay off the national debt. But the sum is not as large as it seems. Divided among 110 million Americans, it would fail to reach $160 per capita. Since 1912 savings deposits have doubled, a most fortunate circum-stance circum-stance ,for without these deposits it would have been difficult to find the money with which to finance the extensive ex-tensive building operations of the last three years. And the four per cent interest paid on the deposits almost equals the income tax of those who pay the minimum rate. Start a savings account today. Better still, start a separate account, no matter how small, for each member mem-ber of the family. It will help you and make the nation's work easier. March (Sunset). |
