Show Invention of Stamps Adhesive postage stamps were Invented In-vented by James Chalmers of Dundee in 1S34. After the passage of the uniform uni-form penny postage bill by the English Eng-lish parliament in 1840, envelopes bearing bear-ing an impressed stamp, or mark', for postage were introduced at the suggestion sugges-tion of Rowland Hill, but failed to find favor with the public. The adhesive postage stamp of Chalmers was thereupon there-upon substituted and did much to Insure In-sure the success of the penny postage scheme. Postage stamps were Introduced Intro-duced into America in 1847. |
