Show Rich Ore Is Found In Salina Property An important discovery, and one that has set the mining fraternity of I Salina to a high pitch of excitement, was discovered at the proiH'rties being be-ing operated by the Salina Ix-ad & Zinc company just northeast of town. The new discovery is none other than a five-inch streak of cadmium ore uncovered at the bottom of the 55-foot 55-foot shaft. The vein, while yet not : extensively developed, shows permanency perma-nency and Manager Robert Burns stated that there is every indication j that at greater depth the new vein will widen out. Cadmium is one of the rare metals, being first discovered discover-ed by Stroymcyer in 1S17, and it is ' most commonly found in zinc ores, I which predominate at the Salina j Lead & Zinc company's property. I According to recent quotations as j I published in the New York Engineer-! Engineer-! ing and Mining Journal, it is valued ; j at about $600 per ton. The new find ( j is regarded as one of the best show-i show-i ings yet made at the property and I ; the management is confident that1 J sooner or later some of the high grade ores will be going to the mar-, mar-, ket j Manager Burns, who was seen last evening, stated that sinking below 1 the 55-foot level was going ahead j satisfactorily and that sinking to the ; 200-foot level would be hurried as ! rapidly as possible. Parts for the I gasoline engine to propel the air j compressor are late in arriving, but I they are erpected by the last of the j week. With the air drills going and two shifts working, some speed is to ' be shown. The main vein of ore, j which is five feet in width, shows a slight degTee of widening, with high- er values in zinc, lead and silver. No little excitement was occasioned by i the discovery of trie new ore, anu more than usual interest is being shown by stockholders. A crew of carpenters and workmen are busy this week grading and laying lay-ing foundations for a boarding and bunk house. Mr. Burns announced that ample quarters would be provided pro-vided for a large crew of workmen which will be kept busy during the winter months. The boarding house and other buildings will be ready for occupancy within the next month. Salina Sun. |
