Show Cauliflower Goes j Out By Trainloads! Sixty-two carloads of the now j famed (iunnison Valley cauliflower,, and several carloads of the "best. cabbage on earth" comprised the shipments from the D. iV. R. C. sta- j Hon since last Sunday, breaking all j previous records. Sunday five car-' loads of cauliflower were loaded in ' refrigerated cars and sent forward.: Monday's shipments were the high-, est for any one day, seven carloads being shipped. Tuesday and Wednes-! day eight cais were shipped, bring-! ing the total to (it! cars of caulil'low- er alone. The peak of the harvest is now on and it is expected that from twenty to twenty-five cars will be go-ing go-ing out each week until the latter part of this month, as real harvesting harvest-ing has just been started. ! In and around the many fields and at the packing house in the Japanese colony anil at the station, there is a veritable beehive of workmen, gathering, gath-ering, packing and transposing to the station. It is said that an average aver-age of four cars a day will be shipped ship-ped until about the middle of October, Octo-ber, when the shipments will he cut down, as the major portion of the nop will le harvested by that time. Shipments, though smaller, will be continue,! until the early part of November. No-vember. Through the activities of Smith it-Hancock, it-Hancock, the wholesale brokers at Salt Iake, the famous cauliflower is dafly finding new fields and is meeting meet-ing with ready sales. Shipments are now being made as far east as New Yoik City and as far soutli as Florida. Flor-ida. Chicago markets find a big sale for the local cauliflower and the major ma-jor portion of the shipments are sen: there. Fach crate is carefully trimmed trim-med and packed and is loaded into iced cars, giving assurance of its arrival at the several shipping points in fine shape. Five carloads of torn down crates have been nailed and made ready for packing. In preparing the crates approximately three tons of nails were necessary to nail the crates j ready for packing. |
