Show Anthrax Reported In Payson Herds An outbreak of anthrax in Payson last week resulted in the death of about a dozen cattle says the Spanish Fork Press. It is thought, however, now to be under control. The disease dis-ease is so rapid in its action that once an animal contracts it, it usually us-ually is dead before anything can be done. The only method of fighting anthrax therefore is prevention. A vaccine has been discovered which prevents the disease for one year very satisfactorily. Owing to the outbreak out-break in Payson, Dr. G. C. Taylor has been busy this week vaccinating local herds. The disease is very contagious and infectious and is caused by the bal-cillus bal-cillus anthricus which might be carried car-ried from one district to another by vehicles, feed, the animals themselves them-selves or by flies. All animals, including includ-ing man, are subject to it. The symptoms of the disease vary greatly, but a typical, casci would find the animal suddenly refusing to eat, and stands with her back arched, arch-ed, a wild look in the eyes and very nervous. If the animal dies suddenly sudden-ly it is a pretty good sign of anthrax. |
