Show August, although rains on August 18-19 have done much to improve conditions temporarily. The chief recent fires have been in the east J Idaho forest region on the Challis and i Lemhi Forests, where several thousand thous-and acres have been burned over last week. Eight experienced fire fighters were detailed from Utah points where I the danger is comparatively slight, to points of extreme hazard in south Idaho. The most inflamable forests, the Weiser, Idaho, Payette, Boise, Salmon, Challis, Lemhi and Sawtooth, all in south central Idaho, have been closed to smoking while on the Boise Camping and other public use is a' lowed only under permit. The?, stringent regulations have brought about a heavy reduction in man-made fires. In approximately one-third of the man-made fires, the offender-have offender-have been apprehended and convicted. Up to August 20, there have beeu 472 forest fires handled by the Forest For-est Service in the Intermountain District, Dis-trict, 238 of which were man-caused. The area of National Forest lands burned over is 14,312 acres, and ovor $15,000 has been spent in fire suppression. I FOREST FIRES IN INTERMOUN.
