Show Citizens Respond "Clean-Up" Day With the vanishing smoke curling high from the myriads of bonfires, reducing re-ducing the debris and rubbish to ashes, with clean streets, yards and homes, th citizens of Gunnison sat in contentment and peace last Friday evening after a most strenuous day. It was clean-up day in Gunnison, and it was one of the most successful and most complete ever attempted in the city. Alleys, streets, back yards and front yards, and gutters were cleaned of the reeking germ breeders; breed-ers; tin cans, ash piles, manure piles, and in fact all obnoxious and unattractive unat-tractive sights were obliterated when the army of cleaners had finished the w'ork. Happily there were but few slackers slack-ers throughout the entire city. On the other hand everybody with the spirit and there were many were out early, and determined. Cheerfulness Cheer-fulness prevailed, . and with this spirit dominating during the working work-ing period the job proved easy? The members of Gunnison Guard Mount, Post 104, voluntarily offered their services in the supervision of the work. Captains had been assigned as-signed to the different streets and with a complete organization there was no conflict and everything went off smoothly and with precision. The citizens, too, ajded greatly in making mak-ing the day a success- and to everyoDe in the city, man, woman and child, much credit is due. The good work has been started and Gunnison just simply shines as a result of the crusade. . If it is kept up or even a little effort putjorth to prevent accumulation of rubbish and other disease-breeding effects, the city will soon he known abroad as the "Clean City of Southern. Utah." The fly season is now upon us, and it behooves every wide-awake citizen to co-operate in keeping the pest down. Set your fly traps early and keep them baited and if this is done throughout the' city the pest i can be easily handled. Plans are already being talked of for the "Clean-Up campaign next year. It has been suggested, though, 'that an entire week he spent at the work. Not only will the citizens be asked to clean up, but it will be urged that houses, barns and outbuildings out-buildings be painted and that the broken down and dilapidated fences bo repaired. |
