Two tickets have been placed before the people, the (!ooL Govern-incut Govern-incut parly ami the Citizens party. There are many vital uestions to be considered, (lunnison, (lunni-son, as is well known, is just now coining into one of the most prosperous slaves it. has experienced since the city was incorporated- if is ;j;oin' to fore ahead as never before, and it is (imperative that, the very best, and most competent men be chosen to ivio-n at the head of the several departments. The (lunnison Valley News stands firmly and fairly for the best, improvement. It believes in the judicious expenditure, of the city's fund for the improvement of tile city. Xo city, no village, no hamlet, ever did amount to nnvlhiiiir when, if with-lield with-lield spending money for civic improvements. But spend the money where if will do the most good for all. During the past two years many improvements have boon made and with the sanction of the voters and taxpayers. Taking the affairs of the city at the time the world was just unerging from the chaotic slate, resultant from the world war, and burdened with a, deficit, the present administration has accomplished much. Approximately Jive miles of cement sidewalks side-walks have boon put in, the linancial condition of the city's noss, the water system has been improved, the city cemetery . supplied with a watering system, that will prove of untold value, and many other questions have been handled in a very conservat ive manner. The water system of the city, from all appearances, seems io 1)0 one of the important issues that will figure in the election, funds have been greatly improved by lessening the indebted-Much indebted-Much is being said about the rental price of $12 per year, many claiming it is too high. And, too, adherents of the lower rate are not representing the conditions fairly. Under the administration admin-istration that, granted a $G rate the -water department was plunged into debt approximately $5,000. This was before the time set aside for meeting the sinking fund of $1,720 each year. "With the additional amount that must be set aside and with the (interest that must be met, and considering the fact that the (system is fast deteriorating, it is imperative that the system be kept out of debt, ancl this can be done only by charging a fair irate for the yearly rentals. I All tliese matters should be carefully weighed and considered con-sidered by the voters before casting a vote, and if you, as citizens, citi-zens, would see the city grow and prosper, vote for the men who twill be back of the city ancl give it a fair, honest and impartial consideration. o |
