Show Valley Pea Crop In Good Shape Farmers throughout the Gunnison Valley are showing unusual interest in the pea growing industry and from all indications a large acreage will be planted to supply the pea canning factory which is to be erected erect-ed herethis fall. An official of the company stated that fully sixty acres of peas had been planted this spring for the purpose of propagating propagat-ing seed for next spring's plant. Not only has the seed been planted but a careful study is being made along the lines . of cultivation, irrigation and care of the crop and it is a safe prediction that the industry for the first year will reach the expectation of both the grower and canners. The seed crop planted this spring is said to be in splendid condition. The vines have already reached a height of more than six inches and in every case the crop looks healthy ana promises big . returns. While nothing definite in the way of acreage acre-age for next year has been officially announced it is believed sufficient, and even more will be produced to keep the factory busy during the canning season. For the purpose of familiarizing themselves with the methods of cultivation, cul-tivation, harvesting and care of the crop and for the purpose of studying the best methods of handling the harvested crop, canning and other important features, some of the officials offi-cials are planning a trip to Utah, Cache and other counties where the industry is carried out on a big-scale. big-scale. The date of the visit has not yet been announced but it is presumed pre-sumed the party will leave about harvest time.
