Show STOP THAT STRIKE. More than six weeks ago a big coal strike in the Carbon coal fields was inaugurated by a set of lawless men, suposedly for the purpose of gaining an increase in wages. The strike has continued and lawlessness has been the rule and the "weak" attempt to suppress sup-press the riols and property-destroying elements have thus far proved futile. The Price Sun, published at Price, and in giving a resume re-sume of the activities of the strikers, deplores the withdrawing of the state militia, and intimates that Governor Mabey and his lieutenants lieu-tenants "believes the shooting is over and all is quiet." From reports sent out from the seat of trouble and from the shooting and other lawless acts committed by the strikers almost daily it seems that there has been little change in the situation and that the strikers still hold the "whip hand." And how long will the state permit such a condition? Is Utah to stand, when it can be easily checked, the raiding, shooting and destruction of property at the hands of the outlaws? It is high time some action was taken and to this end troops, either the state militia or federal troops be sent to the Carbon county fields and settle the mater once and for all. |
